Basil

People don’t usually think of basil as a healing herb and yet traditionally, it is called the “king of herbs”.  It is used medicinally as a natural anti-inflammatory and is thought to have mild antiseptic functions. Some healing uses are for flatulence, lack off appetite, nausea and cuts and scrapes.

Fennel

Contains flavonoids and tannins. Stimulates bile acid production in the liver, giving it a major role in fat digestion and absorption. Also contains anethole, shown to reduce inflammation and retard cancer.

Cloves

Cloves are among the top three spices in antioxidant concentration.

Clove contains significant amounts of an active component called eugenol, which has made it the subject of numerous health studies, including studies on the prevention of toxicity from environmental pollutants like carbon tetrachloride, digestive tract cancers, and joint inflammation.

Cloves are also used for tooth pain.

Garlic

Garlic contains allicin, a substance which has antibacterial, antioxidant, lipid lowering and anti-hypertension properties. Fresh garlic has more potent cardio-protective properties than processed garlic

One quick example of garlic’s power, is in killing multi-drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB)

it has been demonstrated to inhibit the following pathogens as well:

  • AmoebaEntamoeba histolytica (parasite)
  • Cholera
  • Clostridium
  • Cytomegalovirus
  • Dermatophytoses (a type of topical fungal infection)
  • Haemophilus Influenzae
  • Helicobacter Pylori
  • Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1
  • Herpes Simplex Virus Type 2
  • Klebsiella Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus A. (MRSA)
  • Parainfluenza Virus
  • Peridontal Infection
  • Pneumococcal Infections
  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa
  • Streptococcus Mutans
  • Streptococcus Infections: Group A Streptococcus Infections: Group B

    Apple Cider Vinegar

To get the benefits of ACV you need to use raw organic ACV. This contains the “mother” of the vinegar which has raw enzymes and gut-friendly bacteria that promote healing.

Relieves pain from Arthritis and Inflammation – pour 1 or 2 tablespoons into 8 ounces of purified water.

The pectin content in ACV helps treat diarrhea by forming bulk fibrous matter. The pectin also forms a protective coat for soothing the colon lining and intestinal spasms. Try mixing one or two tablespoons into water,

It can help to balance the pH of your skin — use a mixture of one part of the vinegar to two parts water as a toner.

Rubbing apple cider vinegar onto swollen hands or feet reduces swelling. A wonderful thing during pregnancy!

ACV taken diluted in water twice daily, will dissolve acid crystals in the blood and provide potassium, calcium and other essential minerals to the body needed to ease the leg cramps.

One of the best home remedies to treat a yeast infection is Apple Cider Vinegar. Add 1 and a half cups of ACV into a bathtub filled with warm water, and then soak in it for about 20 minutes. This should be done once a day for the first 3 days of the infection.

Acetic Acid found in apple cider vinegar helps with weight loss when taken on a daily and sustained basis. It’s not a silver bullet, but drinking some apple cider vinegar mixed with water is recommended by some as a weight-loss tonic.

    Turmeric

Turmeric has been scientifically documented to have over 500 applications in disease prevention and treatment. It also has been shown to modulate over 150 distinct biological and genetic/epigenetic pathways of value in health, demonstrating a complexity as well as gentleness that no drug on the planet has ever been shown to possess.

Circumin, the active compound in this spice is what makes it so powerful for healing and is a strong anti-inflammatory that helps fight viral infection, cancer, and arthritis.  It is a powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant with a long history of use both medicinally and in cuisine.

Its antioxidant properties help to neutralize free radicals, stimulate the gall bladder, and protect the liver. Turmeric has been shown to reduce the cellular inflammation and oxidative stress that causes degenerative disease. It improves blood flow, which improves cognitive function and speeds wound healing.

Researchers are investigating the benefits of turmeric for treating Alzheimer’s, cancer, diabetes, arthritis, HIV, cataracts, gallstones, endometriosis, atherosclerosis, heart attacks, and more.  Some research shows turmeric to have anti fungal and anti-bacterial compounds as well. It is one of the most-studied herbs today

Some research even shows how turmeric can boost oral health greatly, offering support for issues like gingivitis, mouth cancer, and much more

There are too many health conditions that turmeric may benefit to list, but here re some of the top mentions:

    • Oxidative Stress
    • Inflammation
    • DNA Damage
    • Lipid Peroxidation
    • Colorectal Cancer
    • Breast Cancer
    • Colon Cancer
    • Chemically-Induced Liver Damage
    • Alzheimer’s Disease
    • Tumors

    Considerations for use

Anyone taking prescription blood thinners, anti-coagulants, or has biliary tract obstruction should not take turmeric or curcumin because it stimulates bile secretion. If it is indicated for your condition, be sure to verify if you should use the powder, a tincture, or a poultice. Enhance absorp- tion by taking it with black pepper or bromelain/pineapple. Pineapple will also help with the stom- ach distress prolonged use of curcumin can cause. People with congestive heart disease and who don’t know the cause should also avoid curcumin, as should those who have trouble with blood clotting. It is also not recommended for people with painful gallstones, toxic liver disorders, bilious colic, or obstructive jaundice, according to Bach. If pregnant or trying to become pregnant, check with a qualified practitioner.
